Women’s Bible Study
The Tuesday Morning Women’s Bible Study meets from 8:30 to 9:30 or so in the Fellowship Hall. We are delighted to welcome new members! We have women of all ages and from many denominations and we love the ecumenical and relaxed nature of the group.
Our goal is to draw closer to the Lord through Bible study and prayer and to draw closer to each other, too. The study part of our time together often involves watching a DVD series by a pastor or speaker like Tim Keller or Beth Moore or Jim Cymbala. We watch the presentation and use the study guide questions to discuss it. Other times we will focus on a single book of the Bible and use a workbook to dig deeper into the scripture. On occasion, we have discussed books by great Christian authors, such as C.S. Lewis. The Lord has showered us with great wisdom and insight from all of these sources.
We open and close in prayer, and this is an especially meaningful time for the group, too. We learn about concerns and joys in a confidential setting, and we lift them up to the Lord. We also have an email prayer chain and class summary that goes out to all members so that we can keep up with each other between meeting together. This prayer time, and the way the Lord answers, has provided us with immeasurable comfort.
The members of the Bible study serve others in many ways as we learn of opportunities to be in mission to one another and to our community. There are opportunities as close as next door and as far away as Africa! We also gather several times a year for weekend retreats in Leland, and the Lord always speaks wisdom through these amazing gatherings, too.
Please call the Church Office (231-256-9161) and get details so that you can join us!
The Fourth Day Women’s Bible Study began in our church in 2000 after a few members did the Emmaus Walk (a three day spiritual retreat for Christians), and wanted to continue with a bible study at our church. It was named Fourth Day as a way to continue our growth after our three day walk.
There isn’t a requirement of having done an Emmaus Walk, and over the years we have had many new members join our group.
We meet on Tuesday afternoons from 3 to 4:30 p.m. at the round table by the kitchen (close to the coffee!). It is a very casual gathering, with lots of laughter, good conversation and love for one another. It is a great way for us to grow in our faith without feeling we need to already be bible scholars!
We welcome anyone who would like to join us on Tuesday afternoons. This study is led by Jane Keen, all are welcome.
Please contact us with any questions.
Thursday Night Bible Study
The Thursday Evening Bible Study meets in the Fellowship Room (lower level) on Thursday evenings from 6:00 – 7:3 pm, and is taught by Pastor Daniel Hofmann.
A new class starts up on Thursday, October 3, “An Invitation to the Old Testament”. This study approaches the Old Testament by inviting participants to hear (and read!) the story of God and God’s calling of the people of Israel through the many “voices” of the biblical text. Narrative, poetry, history, and prophetic utterance all have their own distinctive characteristics and purpose. To understand the full story of God’s covenantal relationship with Israel calls for listening and pondering these various ways the story of the Old Testament is told.
Men’s Saturday Group
The Saturday Morning Men’s Bible Study is intended for men of all ages who are seeking to know Jesus Christ better through prayer, study of the Bible, and fellowship. By regularly pursuing these things, we hope to develop deeper faith and become better reflections of Christ at home, at work, at Church, and in the community. The group is open to new members, and typically follows a format of prayer, reading of Scripture, and discussion. We always close in prayer as well. On occasion we will use a study guide or DVD program, although more frequently the discussion and prayer flow from the Biblical text without a separate guide.
The group meets at 201 N. Main Street, at Miller Law Office (upstairs), every Saturday from 8:00 – 9:00 am. Coffee is on the house!
